Ever dreamt of savoring a fresh, crisp salad made from your own garden? Join us for our "Grow Your Own Salad" hands-on workshop where you will learn the process of growing and harvesting salad greens.
In this interactive class, you'll dive into the essentials of growing a vibrant salad garden. You will learn through each step of the process, from planting to harvesting. Learn how to select the best salad greens for our climate, prepare your soil, and nurture your plants to ensure a bountiful harvest. We’ll cover essential tips on watering, weeding, and organic pest control, giving you the tools to cultivate a thriving salad garden.
At the end of the class we will create a delicious, fresh salad together, allowing you to enjoy what a local, home grown salad embodies.
Class two: Tomatoes, Tomatoes, Tomatoes
April 17 or April 26, 2025 10AM-12:30PM Choose one date
Join author and designer Stefani Bittner in this hands-on class dedicated to mastering the art of tomato cultivation. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this course offers invaluable insights into selecting the perfect tomato varieties, preparing your soil, and implementing effective planting techniques. Stefani will guide you through essential topics such as disease prevention, pest management, and optimal watering practices to ensure a bountiful harvest. You'll also learn about sustainable gardening methods and how to maximize your garden's productivity. We will dive into soil preparation, seed growing by transplant, plant placement and fertilization. Succession planting will be covered. By the end of the class, you'll have the knowledge and confidence to grow vibrant, delicious tomatoes all season long. Class three: The Fall / Winter Garden
August 7 or September 6, 2025 10AM-12:30PM Choose one date
Looking to learn how to get the most out of your Fall and Winter edible garden? How to plan a plant palette to suit your fall menus? Which techniques to use for better plant production, and ways to combat winter pests? Local author and designer Stefani Bittner will tackle solutions for common gardening issues in the colder months and will answer all of your questions to set you up for success this season. Learn how to plant garlic, cover crops and cool season vegetables to enjoy in the fall and spring edible garden.
Please wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty. The class is held in a residential garden in Lafayette that has many steps and some uneven ground in the garden. Please wear comfortable, closed toed garden friendly shoes that you can walk up stairs in. The class will be outdoors and it will be cool so please wear appropriate clothing for the elements.
